A Conversation with Professor, Writer, and Literary Critic José María Balcells Doménech about the Publication of His Book Asombros Fugaces: China in Six Spanish Poets.
In February, the series titled Literary Wednesdays continues its fourth season, with the support of the Florida Delegation of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE), the Baquiana Literary Magazine, Baquiana Editions, and the Cultural Center of Spain in Miami (CCEMiami), featuring a special guest, professor, writer, and literary critic José María Balcells Doménech, to discuss his latest book, Asombros fugaces: China in Six Spanish Poets.
Every second Wednesday of the month, the Literary Wednesday’s series invites different authors with the aim of continuing to contribute to community development and to promote the Spanish language and literature in the United States of America. The programs are coordinated and hosted by Maricel Mayor Marsán, president of the Florida Delegation of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE) and director of the literary magazine Baquiana. The event will be permanently available on the BAQUIANA TV YouTube channel, starting at 12:00 AM on Wednesday, February 11.
The program will be conducted in Spanish.

About the book:
This book examines the presence of Chinese culture, life, and history in the lyrical works of half a dozen Spanish writers (Rafael Alberti, Juan Rejano, Carmen Conde, Guillermo Díaz-Plaja, José Corredor-Matheos, and Antonio Colinas) who were marked by their engagement with the Asian country. Ediciones Catay, Taichung (Taiwan).
About the guest author:
José María Balcells Doménech
Professor at the University of León (Spain), from which he retired as a teacher. He is the author of various studies and editions of Golden Age authors, as well as the book Voces del margen. Woman and Poetry in Spain. 20th Century (2009). He has published critical editions and monographs on contemporary poets. In 2016, he brought together his research on the burlesque epic in La epopeya burlada. From the ‘Libro de Buen Amor’ to Juan Goytisolo. His two most recent books on Miguel Hernández have been Nacido(s) para el luto. Miguel Hernández and the Bulls, published by the University of Jaén (2017), and Miguel Hernández and the Hispanic American Poets and Others Hernandian studies, edited by the Miguel Hernández Cultural Foundation. He is a corresponding member of the ANLE, the Royal Academy Alfonso the Wise of Murcia, and the Reial Acadèmia de Bones Lletres de Barcelona.
