From July 1st, during the months of July and August, the short film Lost in Memory 2 by Mexican-Spanish visual artist Juan Pablo Chipe will be featured in the Film section of the website of the Cultural Center of Spain in Miami.
This piece is part of a trilogy of 2D animation short films that continues the recovery of the artist’s memories through five brief episodes.
LOST IN MEMORY 2 presents five chapters illustrated with analog collages and pop music, incorporating cultural debris and visual elements that reflect memories forming part of the artist’s identity.
With an approximate runtime of 16 minutes, the film combines hand-made illustrations, analog collages using recycled materials, stickers, gifs, and songs that enrich the visual narrative. The soundtrack features works by composers and performers such as Evan Kory (USA), TsimTsum (Germany), Natalia Fresneda (Spain), Gigi Lee (China), and Yordan Kostov (North Macedonia).
With an urban, pop, and junk aesthetic, this work aligns with the artist’s ongoing visual art practice focused on “the revaluation of everyday cultural waste,” serving as an extension of his current body of work.

About the artist
Juan Pablo Chipe is a Mexican-Spanish visual artist based in Madrid
since 2005. His multidisciplinary practice spans painting, sculpture, collage, installation, animation, photography, and video, often blending these media in hybrid works. Influenced by his upbringing on the Mexico–U.S. border, his art explores transborder identities, cultural hybridity, and tensions between global consumerism and local resistance.
Using recycled materials and visual languages from advertising, cinema, and mass media, Chipe employs pop-art strategies—bold colors, icons, and cultural mashups—to create impactful pieces addressing identity, geopolitics, and power. He has exhibited in over 300 shows worldwide, including the 60th Venice Biennale (2024), Swatch Art Peace Hotel (2023), and events in Brussels, Belgrade, Marrakesh, Madrid, and Los Angeles.
Chipe has held residencies at institutions such as the Swatch Art Peace Hotel (China) and MIDAC Museum (Italy) and has led visual arts workshops with Instituto Cervantes in Shanghai, Brussels, Athens and Tetouan. His current project, La Escultura, is a public art series to represent hybrid, feminist, and borderland identities. His work invites viewers to look twice—first at the familiar surface, then deeper into its layered narratives.
