CCEMiami and Miami Dade County Auditorium presents The Great Cuban Suite by classical guitarist Alberto Puerto, and guest percussionist Otto Santana on October 22nd, 8PM at MDCA On.Stage Black Box.
About the concert
Alberto Puerto lays out The Great Cuban Suite in this North American encounter by departing from the classical guitar and reimagining its role. The suite of 12 tracks with starkly contrasting elements is demarcated in its major movements by the intervention of the percussion. These expository hands, the spattered elements of jazz, and the various devices available to the guitar itself take us past repetitive constructs to surprise and deliver welcome updates along the stylistic breadth of the major genres of Cuban music, all the while conserving a deep instinct for the historical integrity of each category.
