About the concert
Julio Montalvo Collective is the general name of the project that Montalvo defends as a soloist, a mixture of Afro-Cuban rhythms with the new trends of modern jazz, achieving a warm fusion of New Latin Jazz.
His first two albums were nominated for the Cuba Disco Awards in the category of Best Jazz Album in 2010 & 2013. The formation can range from a quartet to an ensemble of 6 or more musicians, performing original pieces and a selection of Latin Jazz covers, Cuban and Brazilian music.
In this concert, presented by the Spanish Cultural Center with the Miami-Dade County Auditorium, Montalvo focuses on Afro-Cuban music with touches of Latin jazz and gives us a tour of instrumental music and songs.

About Julio Montalvo
Julio Montalvo is one of the avant-garde trombonists of the island of Cuba. He is a composer, arranger and conductor. As a record producer, he has released 20 titles. “Julio Montalvo Orchestra” its Big Band format brings us a wide repertoire that ranges from Latin Jazz with original versions to the classics of Afro-Cuban music including the tribute: “I Love Mambo” and the tribute to the era of the 70s and 80s in the Rock and Disco music with their album “Last Dance”.
Montalvo has participated in various Jazz Festivals, as leader of his project and as “sideman”. Among them, we can mention: Jazz à Foix Festival France, San Javier Jazz Festival, Aljazzira, Jazz Plaza La Habana, Istanbul Jazz Festival, Jazz in Marciac France, Granada Jazz Festival, Valencia Jazz Festival, Lugo Jazz Festival, Ontynjazz, Universijazz de Ciudad Real, Art Basel Party in Miami Design District 2017 & 2018, Jazz at Moca Museum, Global Art Miami Beach among others.
He has shared the stage with musicians from the international Jazz and Latin music scene such as Pat Metheny/ Perico Sambeat Sedajazz Big Band, Oscar D`León Big Band, Claudio Roditi, Lucrecia, Aymeé Nuviol, Dominique di Piazza, Jose Alberto El Canario, Ivan Melón Lewis, La Elite, Darryl Hall, Donald Edwards, Mario Mayito Rivera, Alain Pérez, Angá Díaz, Mark Nightingale, Ximo Tébar, Tony Pérez, Los Van Van, Jose Negroni, Mike Mossman, Sedajazz Big Band among others.
He has collaborated with the main figures of Pop and Rock in Spain. Grammy Award for Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album for David Bisbal’s Acoustic “Una Noche en el Teatro Real” where he participated as co-arranger and multi-instrumentalist.
In 2013, he created the Julio Montalvo Orchestra, a Big Band of 23 musicians with a repertoire that includes more than 100 titles, including his own compositions and versions with original arrangements. with a close and pleasant staging. The orchestra has just recorded a tribute album to the golden era of Mambo and its great exponents: Orestes López, Pérez Prado, Benny Moré, Israel Cachao López, Machito, Tito Puente, Mario Bauzá and Tito Rodríguez. Mambo Babalú “I Love Mambo” features the participation of the Cuban singer living in Barcelona Lucrecia and the former Van Van singer Mario Rivera.
