The annual program of The Cultural Center of Spain, FlamenGO, in collaboration with the Miami Dade County Auditorium’s “Away from Home Series,” present the Spanish pianist Chico Pérez in concert, for the first time in Miami.

The universal pianist Chico Pérez is visiting us directly from Spain and for the first time in Miami to offer us his concert titled “The Flamenco Piano of Chico Pérez.”

The concert will take place on Saturday, May 17th at 8:00 P.M. at the MDC Koubek Center – 2705 SW 3rd. Street. Miami, FL 33135

About the concert

After his recent successes, pianist Chico Pérez is making his debut in Miami for the first time, accompanied by his quintet composed of piano, vocals, electric bass, trumpet, and percussion. A privilege for the attendees who during the concert will be able to listen to the tracks that are part of his latest album releases.

A music whose root is flamenco, but in which we will occasionally hear jazz, blues, or classical music, which leads to it moving and surprising the audience who listen to it, free from labels with a unique style.

This show will immerse the audience in an undoubtedly vibrant and exciting experience and will take a journey through the musical universe of Chico Pérez and his way of understanding flamenco and music.

About Chico Pérez

Chico Pérez (Jaén, 1994) is one of the most recognized pianists and composers at the moment in Spain and has been a sensation among critics and audiences on stages such as the Madrid International Jazz Festival, Jazzaldía International Festival, Real Alcázar of Seville, Flamencos y Mestizos Festival, Cajasol Flamenco Thursdays, FIAS MADRID, or the commission to offer the Inaugural Concert of the Autumn Festival alongside the Spanish Philharmonic Orchestra.

Chico Pérez’s music has its roots in flamenco, but at times we will hear jazz blues, classical music, or soundtracks, which leads him to move and surprise the audience who listen to it, free from labels. A unique style: Chico Pérez’s piano.

His albums “Gruserías” and “Continente 27” have been nominated on both occasions at the Music Awards in the “Best Flamenco Album” category and named by the newspaper El País as one of the best flamenco albums of the year.

Chico has collaborated with artists of the caliber of Arcángel, Manuel Lombo, Rosario “La Tremendita,” Antonio Serrano, etc. Additionally, during concert tours, he has shared the stage with artists of the caliber of Israel Fernández, Chucho Valdés, Pat Metheny, Arcángel, Diego Amador, Farruquito, Tomatito, Ron Carter, Rocío Márquez, Rafael Riqueni, Antonio Canales, among others.

In 2022, he premiered his show “Sueño de 1922” at the Teatro de la Abadía in Madrid. In 2023 and throughout 2024, he begins the recording and release of his third album: “Sarao.”

In 2024, he premiered his new show at the Bienal de Sevilla, the most important festival in the world of Flamenco.

Additionally, Chico Pérez has been a scholarship artist with the Nadine Foundation, the Music in Veins Foundation, and selected by the SGAE Foundation in the national “JazzEñe” call among hundreds of artists. He has also received the Best Artist Award from the RTVE Institute, the Young Talent Award, and the 1st Composer Award in Madrid. His recognition crossed our borders when he was invited by the prestigious University of Oxford, as part of the festival “The World’s Music at Oxford.”

As a composer, he has created the Original Soundtrack for several short films and documentaries.

It is worth noting that Chico Pérez was until 2021 the principal pianist of the musical The Lion King and has collaborated with numerous social projects, among which his work as a Resident Internal Musician at the association Música en Vena, talks and masterclasses at different centers, and his work with various foundations and associations stand out.

FlamenGo is an annual program created by CCEMiami in 2015 which gives visibility and opportunity to extraordinary young Flamenco artists from Spain.

With this program, the art of Flamenco makes it to the public of South Florida. Some artists of note that have participated in this program include Juan Habichuela Nieto, Kiki Morente, La Flaca, María Toledo, Alberto Raya, the dance company of Alfonso Losa and Vanesa Coloma, El Yiyo, Las Migas and Paula Rodríguez Flamenco Company.
