About the workshop

This workshop is addressed to professional theater actors, professors or students that are interested in acting for the camera. Each participant will make at least one scene with a partner that will be sent 3 days before the first day of the workshop.  

  • How can we approach a casting? 
  • Which are the differences between an in-person casting and a self-tape one?
  • Which is the key to analyze a scene for film or TV?
  • How to overcome the fear of the camera? 
  • How to adapt your theatrical knowledge to the audiovisual? 
  • Types of camera angles, types of lighting, how to be on a set…
  • Tools to prepare for a casting 
  • Practice scenes for the camera

Each participant will record a scene for viewing, analysis and feedback. We will learn how to work in front of the camera making it our accomplice and taking advantage from it. 

These 3 days intensive workshop will be a learning experience based on a method of relaxation, concentration and play. 

About Alberto Mateo

Alberto Mateo is a Spanish actor, graduated at the Drama School of Valladolid (Spain). He expanded his training with professionals such as Andrés Lima, Iciar Bollaín, Paco Pino, Macarena Pombo, Cesc Gay, Eva Leire, Yolanda Serrano, among others.

In theater in Spain, he has worked as an actor in “El caballero de Olmedo” for the Compañía Nacional de Teatro Clásico, “La barraca de Colón” for Teatro Corsario (MAX Award 2007), “La Corte del Faraón” Palau de les Arts de Valencia, or “Mucho ruido y pocas nueces” to name just a few.

He came to the United States for his well-known character “MALA SUERTE” and worked for the last 10 years, starring in several successful works such as “Taxi”, “El principio de Arquímedes”, “Nerium Park”, “Orgasmos” and “Nadie te conoce como yo”.

On Spanish Television he made his debut at the well-known series “Hospital Central”. Participating in numerous successful series such as “Isabel”, “Aquí no hay quien viva”, “Amar en tiempos revueltos”, “Bandolera”, the series “The cook of Castamar” for Netflix and Antena 3 amongs others. Mateo’s latest work has been the series “Griselda” performing with Sofía Vergara for Netflix.

Mateo has been working in the United States He has starred in various series for Netflix and Telemundo such as “La mujer de mi vida”, “Dueños del Paraíso”, “Reina de corazones”, “El rostro de la venganza” or Venevisión such as “Los Secretos de Lucía” and “De mente criminal”.

In cinema, he has participated in the following featured films: “Buscando a Coque “, “Pig” “La herencia de Valdemar” and “Estirpe de tritones” or “Mientras Cupido no está” filmed in Spain.

In addition, he is immersed in the casting process of a new theatrical production in Miami.

In addition to being an actor, he also works as a director, playwright and professor teaching both in Spain and the United States. Alberto Mateo has offered his workshops in Miami as part as the programming at the Cultural Center of Spain.
