DORAL INTERNATIONAL ART FAIR 2024 EDITION

Date

From November 7, 2024 to November 10, 2024.

The Cultural Center of Spain collaborates with the 2024 Edition of The Doral International Art Fair with the participation of the Canary Islands artist Emilia Martín Fierro. Las obras que la artista expondrá en la feria forman parte de la serie Mapas del Intersticio.

The Doral International Art Fair arises from the need to provide a quality artistic offer that covers different periods, from historical avant-garde to contemporary art. It seeks to bring together artists, gallery owners, curators, critics, collectors and art lovers in the same space every year with the purpose of enhancing multiculturalism and promoting art as a culture of peace, dialogue and social coexistence. It hopes to become one of the most important art fairs in the country. As an integral part of the art world ecosystem, the activities will have a triple function: cultural, academic and economic. On the one hand, it will bring together gallerists and collectors from around the world, and on the other hand, it will allow art lovers to see important works and discover emerging artists, generating a platform for visibility. Our offer includes qualitatively outstanding works from the most demanded and influential collection areas, which are brought together by renowned gallery owners to consolidate transcendent exhibition on new trends, new artistic realities and quality art.

EMILIA MARTÍN FIERRO

Artist Statement

I am interested in the ideas of ‘edge’ and ‘interstice’, the edges of things and of the concepts we handle, the unclassifiable in-between spaces.

As an islander, the visual metaphor of the wet shore, that changing space in which the sea advances and recedes, serves me to think about other themes such as the border, and in general the difference between representation, static, structured, and life itself as an event, mobile, changing and ungraspable. In the series ‘Maps of the Interstice’ I use the image of the treetops, and I ‘dig’ into the painting, removing or adding layers of gauze with paint and photography, which form reflections and transparencies, hybridizing. I allude to the intermediate layers that form thousands of leaves, territories impossible to map, because they are traversed by

the fleeting instant of light and time in the tinkling of the leaves, lightly occurring.
