A conversation with Martha García, about her bilingual book: Sentido y Arte de la Peregrinación Textual / Sense and Art of the Textual Pilgrimage.

In November, the popular series named Literary Wednesdays continues its 4th Season, with the support of the Delegation of Florida of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE), Baquiana Literary Magazine and the Spanish Cultural Center of Miami (CCEMIAMI), has as special guest, the Scholar and fiction author Martha García to talk about her bilingual book Sentido y Arte de la Peregrinación Textual / Sense and Art of the Textual Pilgrimage.

Every second Wednesday of the month, the series Literary Wednesdays invites different authors, to continue with the contribution of the cultural development of the community and the promotion of the language and literature in Spanish in the United States of America. The programs are coordinated and conducted by Maricel Mayor Marsán, president of the Florida Delegation of the North American Academy of the Spanish Language (ANLE) and director of Baquiana Literary Magazine.

About the book:

The book of tales Sentido y Arte de la Peregrinación Textual / Sense and Art of the Textual Pilgrimage gets us close to the conclusion that for the living being to verify the ideal sense of an experience, a complete process is required that it is observed from the initial stage to the final phase without the distractions or interruptions that cause a dissolution, which would cancel the action of the verb… The work of art and the written text need experience in its form of fullness from the origin that inspires the work of art or the creative text to its culmination, with the entire tangible —and/or intangible— satisfaction and reward that the outcome produces individually and collectively.

About the guest author:

MARTHA GARCÍA

She was born in Havana, Cuba (1965). She has lived out of her country since her early years in Spain and Honduras, as well as in the United States where she has resided since 1989. She studied a Bachelor´s degree in Spanish in 1997 and obtained a master’s in Spanish literature with specialization in Medieval Literature at the University of Central Florida at Orlando in 2000. Later, she graduated from Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) with a doctoral degree in Spanish and Early Modern Spain in 2005. Actually, she is a professor of the University of Central Florida at Orlando where she has been teaching since 2005.

Her work as a researcher is focused mostly in the Spanish language, as well as in the literature and culture of the Medieval period, the Early Modern, and the Spanish American Enlightenment; the dialogue within the text; the theological aspects of the narrative and of the theater; the interdisciplinary application of the investigation; and the applied literary theory.  Her research encompasses the female voices within the literature, the dialogue within and among the texts, the theological aspects of the narrative and theatre, the interdisciplinary application of the knowledge and of the literary analysis.

As an author, she has a trilogy of academic books published in Spain: La función de los personajes femeninos en Don Quijote de la Mancha y su relevancia en la narrativa (2008), Dialogismo teológico: Devotio moderna, Celestina & Quijote (2013), and Cervantes entre la Reforma y la Contrarreforma. España en el contexto literario de las reformas religiosas (2019). She is the editor of one scholastic edition of El condenado por desconfiado de Tirso de Molina (2010), and she is the coeditor of the Cosmic Wit. Essays in Honor of Edward H. Friedman (2021), both editions published by Juan de la Cuesta in the United States. Her essays and articles have appeared in diverse academic books, book chapters, reviews, interviews, conference proceedings, and encyclopedia entries. She is an active collaborator and member of the editorial board of Baquiana Literary Magazine. She has received prizes and acknowledgements for her teaching and research. In two occasions, she has been awarded with scholarships sponsored by The National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) in the U.S.A.
