This September Centro Cultural Español shows four recent successes of Spanish cinema.
Isabel Coixet, Icíar Bollaín, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo and Alejandro Amenábar, are some
of the best known filmmakers of the actual Spanish cinematography. The four motion pictures
selected offer an accurate overview of the different genres and styles that are shown in the
Spanish theatres today. |

Things I Never Told You
Isabel Coixet, 1996, 93’. In English with subtitles Spanish.
Ann receives a call from his boyfriend, who has recently moved to Eastern Europe, in which
he tells her their relationship is over. Few minutes later Ann swallows all her nail polish. After
having a stomach-pumping Ann decides to call her psychologist, but she dials a wrong number
and gets the telephone crisis hotline, where she is going to have a strange conversation
with Don, a guy who is obsessed with other people’s happiness.

Flores de otro mundo
Icíar Bollaín, 1999, 106’. En español
Patricia is Dominican and wants to solve her visa situation in Madrid,
find a home and stability. Milady, born in La Habana, is 20 years old
and wants to travel the world. Marirrosi, from Bilbao, has a work, a
house and the utmost solitude. Alonso, Damián and Carmelo, also
share this solitude. They are men from Santa Eulalia a village with no
women at marriageable age and with no future.
A party for single people forces a meeting and also the beginning of
this bittersweet story of impossible coexistences.

Tomás, is the only survivor of an airplane accident. He has the fortune
gift and Sam will use him to perform his revenge. He will train him to
steal the God Chance’s luck. Besides, Sara a policewoman who has
survived a car accident that has killed all her family is following the
clue of these clandestine games where chance and death are mixed

Out to Sea
Alejandro Amenábar, 2004, 125’. In Spanish with English subtitles.
.Ramon has been bedridden for almost thirty years, in care of his family.
His only connection with the external world is the window of his
room, just next to the ocean, where he used to travel through and where he suffered an
accident that interrupted his youth. Since then, his only desire is to end with his life with
dignity.
